Winter scene from Northern Saskatchewan

FTLComm - La Ronge - Monday, December 18, 2006
This weekend it was time once again for a visit to the northern Sasaktchewan community of La Ronge. The first three and last three images were taken by me and the rest by Judy Shire. At the top of the page this picture was taken at noon Sunday looking out onto the lake through the trees in downtown area of the community.

Like much of Saskatchewan La Ronge has experienced some pretty unseasonal weather with heavy snow falling on Friday night so much so that it made driving down to do some evening shopping almost impossible. The heavy snow was accompanied with mild temperatures which continued throughout the weekend.

As darkness approached (4:00 PM) Judy went for a walk and captured these images of the sun retreating behind the cloud and of the snow trapped on the brush. She took one image of our snowmobile, well it wasn't intended to be a snowmobile but with the amount of snow this winter it seems that it is well suited to the task. Before Judy went for a walk she had to shovel the van out of a pile of snow at the park, the driver skidded it into the rough jamming the driver's door shut and with a little snow shovelling and a wiggle or two we got it out.

This morning I drove down the trail from La Ronge to Prince Albert and on to Tisdale and the last three images were taken as the sun showed up somewhere near Montreal Lake.
