Cory Styan Accepted Into the Canadian Armed Forces

FTLComm - Tisdale - September 7

October 9th will see this year's graduate of TMSS Cory Styan on his way to Nova Scotia for the intensive boot camp that will initiate him into the Canadian Armed Forces. Cory had applied and was accepted into the Canadian Navy where he will be trained as an electrician. With two bases, he will either be stationed at Halifax or Esquimalt after his completion of the six week boot camp training.

It is not an easy thing to get into the Canadian military in its complex peace time role. After seeing recruitment people at the TMSS career day he took the initial steps to join and qualified for the testing programme. He had no problem with all of the various qualifying tests but one was definitely a curve ball. This test involved the recruit to be able to run a specific distance in a given time. Cory, a seasoned and well trained athlete had no problem with this but when it came to the actual test it did not involve a run but instead a heart monitor connection and set of stairs to run up and down.

Up until last season Cory was a Tisdale goalie having played with the Tisdale Rambler minor hockey teams through the years and last year with Nipawin Hawks "AA" in the Centre 4 league.

Cory looks forward to the "join the navy and see the world" idea and has high hopes of getting a chance at a crew position in one of Canada's new submarines expected into service in the next two years. But for now, it is time to enjoy a short holiday and prepare for boot camp in October.

From the Shires, Best of luck Cory.
