Purple martin condo

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, June 6, 2008

I was surprised a few minutes ago to discover that of all the birds we have done stories on at this web site we have not done piece on the magnificient and busy purple martin. There is a large apartment for them less than a block from our house and another I know of on the east side of town near the water treatment plant. These insect eaters fill the sky on summer evening swooping up and down collecting on the fly the insects that make up their diet.

I spotted this condo in the back yard of none other that the town's mayor's back yard. Definitely a modern version of bird house this set up seems to be perfect for an excellent colony of these hard working birds. The mayor's house is located just across the street from Theresa a park and this is the perfect spot for a large colony of bug eaters.
