Household Auction

FTLComm - Tisdale - Wednseday, May 8, 2002

Though this auction sale held Tuesday at Schapansky's had some farm equipment the main event was the warehouse full of furniture and appliances which went on sale at 4:00.

There was a good sized crowd on hand and when I arrived as the sale was just beginning it was hard just to get into the building. The patrons were jammed tight against one another as sofas, TVs, microwaves and fridges were sold to the highest bidder.

The huge building is ideal for this sort of sale but surprisingly for its size and spacious nature the smoke from a group of people sitting at lunch tables was blue, so much so that in the picture below you can see the smoke as the light comes in from the skylights above.

It continues to be one of those amazing things about people and the power of their addiction to tobacco. It has been years since it has been so widely known that consumption of this stuff really shortens the lives of not only the user but everyone around them. Taxes have increased on the product and millions of dollars of advertising dished out to inform people yet the practice, because of its addictive nature, continues. Clearly one of those thing that defies all logic.

But finding a bargain is understandable and bidders were standing in line to find the products they need and take an active role in setting the price.
