time to
check

With a half an inch of rain last weekend and freezing or near freezing several nights this week it's time to check and see how things are going. Dave Morgan, who farms about five miles North of town explained to this reporter Thursday afternoon the conditions he is concerned about.

pasture

Q: How's your pasture?
A: I don't have any pasture, it is just like dust out there.

rain

Q: Did that rain help any?
A: Yeah it got things going and the grass started to turn green.

frost

Q: Do you think that frost damaged the alfalfa?
A: I don't know about the alfalfa but it really set back the grass.
The rain had turned it green and the frost has stunted and set it back.

damage

Q: Well, we didn't really get frost here in town.
A: Oh yes there was frost alright and its really hard to tell how much damage it did.

Dave said his crop was coming up but his biggest concern right now was the condition of his pasture and that he would have to feed the cattle from bails.

That half an inch of rain just didn't go very far when faced with a steady diet of wind day after day that removes moisture at an alarming rate. The provincial over view is that about 79% of seeding is complete, slightly ahead of other years and moisture conditions are critically low in all but the South Eastern portion of the province where the snow fall had been very heavy.

Seeding in the Tisdale area has been complete for some time and this morning the North East wind blowing over the town was carrying with it a hint of herbicide as farmers are spraying for weeds. The pictures on this page were taken this morning at 8:30 on the field of stubble on the West side of town.
