Seeding began in earnest Monday as farmers in the Winnipeg area began putting in crops. Many are just applying fertilizer but many others like the one in these pictures are doing one pass seeding. Reports in Manitoba indicate that farmers are planning to plant little canola and other oil seed crops and put in the traditional prairie king, red spring wheat. This crop though its price is depressed and unlikely to improve remains the least expensive crop to plant and in times like these efficiency will be the primary concern.

From what we can determine the seeding process is not yet beginning along the TransCanada highway and South as the fields in this part of the prairies is just not yet ready for planting. However, less then an hour North of Regina some farmers have already got their first quarter sections finished up. As we travel along the TransCanada West this morning we have not seen any field work From Regina to Moose Jaw or Moose Jaw to Swift Current.
