Street to Elementary School Washes Out

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, June 21, 2002

A small hole appeared in the middle of the street beside the Lion's paddling pool on Thursday. The hole about the size of a power pole in diameter seemed pretty deep so Friday morning the town crew opened up the hole to discover an enormous cavity under the street.

Apparently the drain from the paddling pool empties into the sewer in the middle of the street and the elbow cracked or broke. In time, with each flushing of the pool (the empty the pool each night during the summer) the rush of water through the broken pile removed some of the surrounding fill until yesterday the hole reached the surface.

Workers are seen here installing a new elbow on the large eight inch line.

The incident is consider to be a freak accident, the lines involved are not old and no apparent problems had been experienced with them in the past so it was a complete surprise when this hole appear yesterday.
