Inflation Calculator

This is a rather interesting site. Look at RATES & STATISTICS , UNCLAIMED BALANCES & "THE INFLATION CALCULATOR".

Bear in mind that this is a "Bank of Canada" site, therefore; its' accuracy might be questionable.

I'm not sure what a "basket" of goods means specifically; but in 1961 I did look at the purchase of a brand new 1961 Chevrolet Impala, 2 door hard top- loaded. As I recall the price was $2100.00 (this was a discounted price as I worked for the dealership; but the spread was probably only a couple hundred dollars ).

I put this date & amount in the calculator fields & the end result was that today it would cost $13,431.02 , with a percent change over 41 years of 539.57 %. If I could purchase a top of the line Chevrolet today for $13,431.02 , I'd buy one each , for myself, my wife & two sons.
