Who Can You Trust?

The American's motto is "In God We Trust", while in Canada it would appear we are intent in locking God away from public view. So, who do we trust?

We place our trust in supposed experts everyday to provide us with the solutions to our problems only to often discover that we are victims of our own ignorance. Taking advantage of what we don't know are those who we can only hope do. Unfortunately, if you seek the advice of more than one expert you often end up with completely contrary solutions that leave you even more confused and convinced that none of these jokers have a clue. Instead of expertise, we end paying for bull chips. In seeking someone you can trust to solve your problems, you discover that the only problem they hope to solve involves moving money from your pocket into theirs'.

Our faith is tested by questionable accounting practices in the corporate world, and our trust in the government is shaken when even the Prime Minister is shown to be lying to us. Then again, maybe lying isn't the social scourge it once was. To be called a liar was a most severe rebuke, and to be proven to be one was cause for disgrace. I guess we have redefined what lying is, referring to it as "putting a spin on things", as we attempt to remove all forms of social ostracisation in order to excuse away any moral deficient behaviour.

Too bad, as it would seem to me that the one thing Canadians yearn for is to be able to trust somebody without feeling like a sucker.
