Tisdale School Division Official Grand Opening
Partner Welding programme

FTLComm -Tisdale - Thursday, September 26, 2002

Tisdale school division is proud and certainly deserves to be, of its many successes in brokering deals with governmental agencies and private business. The most astonishing partnership one that has been closely looked at by other governments world wide has been the Tisdale RECPlex which is a model that has served the division's

willingness to make the school and the school system a working collaboration with its communities.

Today at 11:30 it was time to officially open the industrial welding project in the Tisdale Middle and Secondary School

industrial arts workshop.

Director Tim Tarala, then the manager of Beeland Co-op, human resources manager with Northern Steel Industries and a grade ten student in the programme told of each of their parts in this collaboration and what they hoped to see it produce.

Mr. Tarala explained the need for the Division to work closely with the elements of the community to forge a better mesh between education and the rapid development of industry in the community.

Northern Steel Industries explained that in these difficult agricultural times this local manufacturer is doing $40 million dollars business with its Tanks soon to appear in a movie in southern California, perched in the arctic wastes of Alaska, providing environmentally friendly storage in eastern Ontario and all the while over 130 workers produce a product admired in all market places. The company is in a constant and growing need for industrial workers and a welding programme in the local high school is a good step forward as well as work experience students from both Tisdale and Arborfield exploring the work first hand.

To officially open the well equipped section of the workshop the class instructor explained that instead of cutting a ribbon a student would weld a sign proclaiming the opening of the project (top of page)
