Pick it up

FTLComm - Tisdale - Wednesday, April 18, 2007

This just goes to show you that some people show leadership by putting up signs while others show us what to do by bending over and picking up unsightly litter as we walk along.

This afternoon I was strolling, and I do stroll as I am a notoriously slow walker, along and this lady passed me, then abruptly headed across to the curb on the other side of the street to pick up some discarded wrapper. I did think it odd when she passed me that she was clutching a flattened cigarette package. As she made her way down the street ahead of me, she picked up a piece of something here, then something else somewhere else, as she headed for the same post office destination I had in mind.

Now the winter and my own indulgence have not been kind to me and I find it a struggle just to make it to the post office and back, but wait a minute what a great idea. Pick up the litter as you go and get a little exercise doing it while making the town look and feel much better. Yes!

On my way home I met her with more handfuls of litter as she marched along on her mission. Now that's leadership!
