Town Has Reclaimed Site Nearly Done

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, August 17, 2001

The gradual process of moving fill into the excavated site now free of the contaminated soil has been slow with the three trucks dumping their loads and the loads smoothing each load out to be packed.

This morning at 8:30 you can see that only a couple of feet more will be needed to finish off the site.

The moist clay is packing down well but to make sure that things are going as planned an Engineer is on the site testing to see that the compaction is going according to plan.

Using a simple probe tool he makes a hole of a specific depth into the newly compacted material then inseerts a probe. The probe is radio-active and the electronic device that rests on the surface measures the amount of radiation emitted from the probe and since this is a fixed amount the density of the material can be measured accurately.

By restoring this site with a compacted fill it will not cause trouble for the street beside it and will be ready for any construction that may result in some company decided to build on this choice location on Tisdale's main street.
