For most Saskatchewan folks last summer was a chore rather than a celebration. I know it wasn't meant to turn out that way but we and many other people in this province have lived in many communities and consider more than one our home. So in 2005 with centennial celebrations and family reunions it was really a tough summer. My wife and I felt like we had been unable to take time and smell anything let alone the roses.
Then of course there was the none summer of 2004 when the weather was simple plain difficult. Low temperatures, miserable storms and really not much fun.
That brings us to the summer of 2006, the wet year, well that's how it began but this is a summer that has given us heat, sunny skies and the feeling that just maybe we do have summer in Saskatchewan.
Jo Lukinchuk snapped this image a week ago of a young fisherman casting into the cool blue water of McBride Lake. McBride is a wilderness lake, one of several off of highway 9 between the Pas, Hudson Bay and Preeceville. I went hunting for it on a map on line and came up empty though I have seen the road sign for it and often wondered what it and Amisk are like. In this picture you can see that the boy fishing is the only sign of life in the picture and the far shore is just a bit obscured with the smoke from forest fires that filled the air in the last days of June and early July.
Looks like he has thing going his way. Time for us all to take a little time for ourselves this summer.
