Canada Day in Regina

FTLComm - Regina - Friday, July 3, 2009

We have a long standing tradition of celebrating Canada's national day and it seems as though that tradition is much more widespread than it once was. This year we spent the holiday in Saskatchewan's capital city and it was imprressive to see the city family group by family group looking for their own way of making the day special. It is especially noteworth to point out that the consumer market place has realised that the usually reserved Canadians are becoming considerably more patriotic, at least in showing their affection for things that brand us as Canadian.

We joined what seemed like most of the population of Regina who huddled around the huge artifical lake that is called Wascana in the centre of the city to observe the fireworks at about fifteen minutes after ten. It was truly astonishing to see the crowds, the traffic and the peacefullness of this rermarkable event. Everyone loves fireworks but there was an atmosphere that just made these ones special and when they concluded there was a round of applause that stretched over the miles and miles of crowd surrounding the lake. I do not have any pictures of the traffic and crowds as this event was something that had to be experienced first hand.
