Let's Grow Rocks Instead

FTLComm - Tisdale - Tuesday, June 5, 2001

This house sits on the corner across from the future site of the Golden Age Centre and has a fine yard and garden but this is not the year for its lawn. The owner explained that she just could not see the sense in pouring water on it and as it is it will not grow grass and looks bad. So, if it won't grow grass it's coming up and yesterday her nephew began the process of removing the lawn and replacing it with crushed rock. She is going to install borders around the trees and use wood chips in those areas but otherwise she feels the rock will look better than the patchy grass.

We have shown you in the past paved lawns, concrete ones and a rock one last week so this lady is not alone in her distain for useless grass. In a dry year like this one it just seems wrong to pour valuable water on the ground and then cut the grass that grows from the process.

Time for alternatives.
