Political representative's actions
earn no respect

Toronto, Ontario, Friday, June 10, 2005, by : Michael Murton

It is lamentable that our government and our opposition parties focus on whether the audio tapes made by Gurmant Grewal have been altered. The fact that he made them at all represents a despicable act, that should be recognized for what it is, a criminal invasion of the rights of the other parties to the conversations.

Whether you view the actions of all of the parties as justified or not, the fact that Mr. Grewal chose to record the conversations without the knowledge of the others was a vile attempt to manipulate the situation that can in no way be made virtuous.

Section 184 of the Criminal Code allows for the recording of conversations only with the consent of at least one party to the conversation, and with the prior written approval or authorization of a judge.

When our political representatives act in a manner that is illegal and disgusting, it is little wonder that they earn no respect.

One wonders when they will
"stick to their knitting" and turn their attention from political intrigue to creating a roadway to build jobs and opportunities for the future. That would make them relevant to Canada. As well, that would make their actions and views worth reporting by the media. Until then, they should expect that Canadians will tune them out.
