Life and death decisions

The Harper government mocks the dead! Does it matter? For the record, the Harper government has made several life and death decisions. Early in Harper?s tenure, the Americans shot at Canadian ambassadors in the middle east; Mr. Harper sided with the Americans. Next Mr. Harper gave a blank cheque for a war on the Lebanese-Israeli border - not making any distinction between the unlawful Hezbollah combats and innocent Lebanese and Israeli civilians. Canadian peace-keepers died without consequence. Then bizarrely, Mr. Harper called Taiwan a part of China; even though the US has threatened nuclear war if China were to try to take Taiwan. Claiming to be an international military leader, Mr. Harper re-organized the military objectives in Afghanistan; Canadian deaths escalated radically. And still not done, the Harper government allowed a nuclear safety issue to escalate into a world-wide medical crisis; tens of thousands of cancer patients were denied treatment. Recently, Canadians are dying from Listeriosis - a situation that the medical association says is the worst in the world. Mr. Harper s response is to promise less government oversight. When his cabinet Minister was caught mocking the situation, he supported his cabinet minister. In matters of life and death, when will Mr. Harper take the side of Canadians and stand up for us?

The work of the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team is the bridge to long-term stability. The Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team consists of Canadian Forces members, a civilian police contingent led by the RCMP, Correctional Services Canada, representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Canadian International Development Agency. The KPRT conducts coordinated interdepartmental operations to promote good governance, assists the Government of Afghanistan in extending its authority in the province of Kandahar, and facilitates the development of a stable, secure and self-sustaining environment for the people of Afghanistan. Joint Task Force Afghanistan (JTF-Afg) is Canada’s military contribution to Afghanistan. Canadian operations will focus on working with Afghan authorities to improve security, governance and economic development in the country. The Canadian Forces (CF) contribution in Afghanistan comprises over 2,500 soldiers, most of who serve with JTF-Afg at Kandahar Airfield and Camp Nathan Smith, Canada’s Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), in Kandahar City.
