Those who think that Anorexia is strickly a "female thing" are wrong. Statistics prove that approximately 10% of all eating disorder suffers are male. As one can imagine, getting help for males would be a bit more difficult to reach out for. The media has named Anorexia Nervosa as a womens disorder, therefore many men feel that their masculinity will be questioned if they admit to having this problem. Truth is, anorexia does not pick a specific gender, race or culture to inhabit. It can come upon anyone..... whether you be male or female.

Eating disorders in males are majority of the time linked within athletic performance, particularly for men who participate in sports that have weight classes, such as gymnastics, boxing, wrestling, dancing, rowing, and long distance running.

Lead singer of Silverchair, Daniel Johns is an example of an individual who had taken a harsh battle with anorexia. Songs that he wrote, including "Ana's song" are metaphors for his struggle with this disease. Daniel is luckey, he survived. He also made it possible for other males with eating disorders, to find help. He openly talked about his fear and fustration for an article printed in the November 1999 issue of Teen People Magasine
