Ups and Downs

Digging continues today as the town steadily excavates the contaminated soil across the street from the town office. The engineer for the project has taken extensive soil samples which are now at a lab and the results of that testing will determine if the hole's depth will have to be increased. The area where the digging now is taking place is close to the actual location of the underground storage tanks which were removed many years ago. This project is going to be slow going because once it is determined that the site can be filled the material used will be put down in six inch layers then packed with each successive layer. The new RM building on the East side of town has already had some damage, a recent electrical storm discharged on the building causing substantial damage to some of the new rafters which will have to be repaired or replaced.
