FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, November 22, 2001

You must admit that this was a great idea, the Golden Age Centre has been like a baby to many people involved in the organisation that created it and it was fitting that on Wednesday afternoon they held a shower to get the new building on its way.

More than one hundred-forty folks were on hand for coffee and cookies bringing with them a huge assortment of donations while others did their part by making cash contributions. One extremely obvious donation were the new tables presented to the centre by Tisdlale's hard working Lionelle club. These

amazingly durable plastic topped tables will outlive generations of members of this organisation.

Since last week the Centre has continued to develop with the hardwood floor getting its finish and more details added as the plumbing continues to be installed and work progresses in the kitchen.

This coming week will see a hardwood bumper strip installed in this room and the floor edging. Several more doorways are still be installed as this building is rapidly approaching its finished state.

Below you can see that the kitchen is well underway with two electric stoves installed and one fridge. The floor frames for the cabinets are in place and with the arrival of so much equipment and provisions these cupboards are really needed.

The donations were really outstanding with loads of dish clothes and dish towels, table clothes, cups, coffee makers, serving trays, disposable plates and even a clock.

There is no question that the folks who came got right into the spirit of the building development and brought things that can be used to get this building open and running.

In the lobby a chalk board has been installed for messages and a bulletin board and as the stacks of material were being packed up the pictures seen below were being posted on the wall showing the floor being laid three weeks ago and some pictures of the event that had only concluded an hour earlier.
