Floor Covering and Hardwood

FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, November 1, 2001

This week the new Golden Age Senior's Centre received its floor covering. The main room saw the installation of the hardwood flooring that had been removed from the old TUCs gym, and is now being carefully installed. By tomorrow this process will be complete and on Monday a skilled tradesman will be in to begin the process of sanding the surface and then proceeding with the application of a finish.

While the main floor was being finished another crew were busy giving the same treatment to the stage floor.

Even without its finish this new (old) floor looks absolutely fabulous, the rich nature of the hardwood is going to be a main feature of this building throughout its life and a credit to those who worked so hard to lift it from TUCs salvaging this material.

The games room, kitchen, washrooms and entrance area (above) all have had the application of rolled hard surface flooring. This installation process is nearly complete and the floor will be ready for sealer and the various protective coatings that are applied to make a floor like this look great and be easy to maintain for decades.

On Sunday more gravel was added to the parking area around the building than on Monday and Tuesday the "opps factor" kicked in when the town removed almost all of the top soil set asside for landscaping the area once the construction phase is complete. The top soil had been carefully removed and piled for this purpose long before construction began and it seems folks had forgotten what that pile of dirt was for. Now it will have to be hauled back in to landscape the area next summer to provide the surface soil for lawns and covering the clay in the South portion of the site.
