Paint Time At The Golden Age Centre

FTLComm - Tisdale - Wednesday, October 10, 2001
Work at the Golden Age Centre is growing incrementally as donations and support for the project have made the work move more quickly. The weekly Sunday afternoon bingos have been contributing needed funds to move to this finishing stage.

Last week the parking lot was cleared and gravel dumped as the growing number of people working on the project need a place to park.

This morning the place was a beehive of activity with volunteers applying paint to walls, doorways and about every other surface needing paint. Primer is being applied throughout and dries quickly with fans moving the air around.

The above ceiling insulation will be installed shortly as this painting process with so many workers on hand is going very quickly.

The drywallers are on hand to direct the process as Art Smith was busy this morning just going from roller pan to roller pan keeping them full.

All of the walls are now in place, taped and sanded so the building is now starting to take the form that will be how people will see it when it becomes the social centre of the senior citizens of Tisdale and surrounding districts.

The heating system is almost completely installed. Hot air pleniums are seen here attached to the ceiling with large cold air return intakes on the floor into each portion of the building. This return air goes to the furnaces and large air handling exchange units will soon be installed.

The unique electric furnaces are seen below. They heat water which is drawn from the wells, run through coils

through which the air passes. This is a very fuel efficient and modern heating system with its system of heat sink storage wells outside to the South of the building providing massive storage capacity so that the electric heating system can draw low amounts of energy warming the water then recoverng the heat from the storage wells as needed.

The telephone and electrical panels are all now in place allowing for the continued installation of all the support equipment that goes into a building of this kind.

With so much accomplished the fund raising people must be feeling very pleased with the project as day by day details are added. We'll give you a look around next week to see how things are shaping up then.
