Ready To Pour

FTLComm - Tisdale - May 8, 2001

Later Friday (7:00) Chupa Excavation was on hand as the gravel base was installed readying the project for setting up the foundation forms early Monday morning.

Before 8:00 Monday about six individuals were at work and by the end of the day the forms were ready for the cement.

Using this energy efficient foam system of forms it is just like working with "Lego" to assemble a perfect basement. The foam pieces are fitted into place and held in place with the black plastic connectors and the result is an outstanding set of forms for the concrete.

This basement forms the core of the future Golden Age Centre and sits beneath its kitchen and washrooms providing a location for heat and other utilities.

We will have a chance to watch this project grow step by step in Ensign as it is nearby and the process is sequential.

With the concrete in place work will begin with backfilling then excavating the footings for the main structure. Each step in construciton will expand the work force as more trades will be needed to carry out the needed work. Water, sewer and electical lines still have to be brought onto the site.

With this being a community project there are a large number of volunteers involved who will assist with the various parts of the construction process.
