Cross country in the rain

FTLComm - Tisdale - Wednesday, September 17, 2003

This was the scene at the Kinsmen Park at 4:00 this afternoon as the first cross country running meet of the season got underway. Teams from Melfort, Star City, Nipawin, Hudsons Bay Division were on hand to participate in the event.

Cross country is one of the best conditioning sports in the season

and small schools and students who do not participate in many of the more formal sports programmes can do well in cross country.

The runners compete in their own age groups and today's run was around a 1.4 kilometre course that went down into the hiking trail along the Doghide and back up to the Kinsmen Park start finish area.

There were a good number of spectators on hand and Mr. Tube Steak was there to warm

up the tummies and spirits of everyone.

The next meet is on Saturday September 20 at 10:00 in the morning at Kinistin. On Thursday at 3:10 September 25 coach Ivan Beuker (right) will be hosting the event at Star City. On Saturday, September 27 the TMSS team will be competing at the University of Saskatchewan meet in Saskatoon at 0700. Then on Tuesday, September 30 at 3:10 it will be time for the Melfort meet. The NESSAC championship cross country meet is scheduled for Tisdale at 12:10 on Wednesday October 8 and the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association provincial meet is in Sturgis Saturday October 18.
