Ensign Notes

.Happenings In Tisdale:

David Anderson's view of the CWB

Tuesday
November 21, 2006
by : Henry Neufeld
Waldeck :
The ideology not the economics or practicality of issues like the Canadian Wheat Board are hard to argue rationally. Member of parliament David Anderson sees no reason to rely on facts and figures but bases his arguments for the disbanning of the institution on simplton ideological theory. That may be politics but it will not pay the bills down on the farm.

Craft sales and history books occupy our intrepid reporter's mind this week as he dashes from one sumptous luncheon to another all the while there is a raid in progress at the bird feeders.

Thursday
November 16, 2006
by : Mario deSantis
Prince Albert :
Though difficult to conceive we are an intellectual abstract form of life and our actions and motivation is largely shaped by the words we use. Words that form a framework for thoughts and since we depend so heavily upon communication the future of our society hangs in the balance of what we mean.
Time has left them behind

Welcome to Winter

Tuesday
November 14, 2006
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale :
With continuous snow falling and a pleasant -5ºC this is the real thing. Comments like "cold enough for yah?" will replace "good day."
The Greenwater Report

Monday
November 13, 2006
by : Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Provincial Park :
It is winter at the park and time for some tall tales and coping with American hunters. Deer, coyotes and wolves occupy the conversations.

Same Sex Marriage - Beyond Notwithstanding ...there's disallowance

Monday
November 13, 2006
by : Robert Ede
Thornhill Ontario :
The Harper government wants to re-open and debate same sex marriage legislation and it would appear that most members of parliament have no interest in doing that but it doesn't matter the rules can sort matters like this out.
"...and peace be with you..."

Thursday
November 9, 2006
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale :
It would be nice for the sun to shine but at this time of the year we often get weeks of solid overcast and we have to learn to deal with the glum. Dealing with things is part of living and for many of us a very difficult part of our day to day experience.
Intergration into the United States

Wednesday
November 8, 2006
by : David Orchard
Borden :
Canadians have strugged with their national identity since confederation and yet we are making progress as we come to understand better and better how we are not like Americans. Oddly enough, we now have a prime minister who does not share that same view as his countrymen and instead seems hell bent on rounding up the country and heading south to embrace Yankee values.

Its much more than remembering

Friday
November 3, 2006
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale :
The two weeks before Remembrance Day are confusing. What are we remembering, what was the sacrifice worth and perhaps thousands more questions that pass through our minds in this bleak period of late fall each year.
