Tim's Tip of the Day

Thus ends our ability to make fun of Vancouver where it rains sometimes. This year in Saskatchewan is rains almost every day without fail. (Click on thumb nail to see full size.)

Find of the day

Most countries fail to deliver on Haiti aid pledges
Of all the promises to help Haiti only Brazil, Norway, Estonia and Australia have paid up. The US promised $1.15 Billion and paid nothing. Canada is also one of the countries that is just all talk and has not put their money where their promises have gone. Aid agencies like the Red Cross and others have only spend a fraction of the money donated.

Happenings In Tisdale:

Flowers and a robin
Tuesday
July 13, 2010
by: Matthew Shire

Regina: One evening a week ago Matthew wandered around his Regina yard with camera in hand and collected this interest group of thirty-four images. These images were taken with a Canon Rebel and a telophoto lens. However, the robin was unpreturbed by his picture taking and was about five to six feet away in these pictures. We present these images in a slide show accompanied by Diana Krall's Narrow Daylight from "The Girl in the other room" album.

'30 Rock' Saskatchewan Express
Monday
July 12, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Greenwater Water Lake Provincial Park: Each year Saskatchewan Express tours Saskatchewan's provincial parks and they were in the midst of that tour this past Friday when they performed to a really big crows at Greenwater. Each year's show is distinctive with the character of the performers coming through. This year is no exception with this being their thirtieth anniversary the show was just under an hour and a half pact with hits and non-stop action on stage.
House number nine
Thursday
July 8, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Situated on the east side of New Market one of the few remaining lots available is the site for the ninth housing start of the year. The eighth project, a duplex, is not progrressing very quickly but does have its floor in place and construction on its walls is about to begin. House 9 has most of its exterior frame in place and the work crew is beginning the process of assembling the inside partitions. This project got underway on June 10 so it right about the month since it began development.
Little crop in bloom
Wednesday
July 7, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: The heavy rain and high water table is combining to take a fatal toll on the crops that did get planted. With only half the fields planted (less in some areas) the yields will be very low on those crops planted because these conditions and flooding just will not make for a positive harvest.
Canada Day fireworks at Crooked Lake
Monday
July 5, 2010
by: Matthew Shire

Crooked Lake: Each July first George and Linda Broda host a huge family gathering at their cabin at Crooked Lake and the evening is capped off with a fireworks display. This year there was ten knots of wind to deal with but the show went on and Matthew captured some of the scenes for you to enjoy. It will keep on playing until you click on "Ensign" to return to the front page.

"B" train rollover at Estlin
Wednesday
June 30, 2010
by: Stu Innes

Estlin: Saskatchewan's roads and highways are home to thousands of grain haulers who run around the clock get their loads to their destinations. It is surprising how few run into difficulty. Last night near Eslin south of Regina a "B" train did a complete rollover from wheels to roof back to wheels with only slight injuries to the driver.

Tisdale: Tisdale has a curious custom of its high school graduates painting up a clunker for the celebration of their high school finale. Here are some pictures of this year's crop of vehicles.

Tuesday
June 29, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: This rare and magnificently preserved fifty-three year old car has been in Tisdale for the last week or so and definitely deserves some comment on this web site.
A wet land
Monday
June 28, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Those fields that were planted are severely, perhaps terminally damaged from the almost continuous rain we have experience in May and June. Today we have three picrtures that illustrate the situation.

Monday
June 28, 2010
by: Darlene McCullough

Tisdale: Tisdales retired teacher went a tea house in Carrot River and had a fish supper at Tobin Lake to wrap up this past year's activities. This report summarises the year.
Unsettled weather
Sunday
June 27, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: A few showers even a few showery days are the norm for late June in Saskatchewan but in a year when rain is followed by more and more rain the sequence of daily rain is getting a bit tiresome.

Sunday
June 27, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Municipal McCarthyism
Friday

Victoria, British Columbia: The head of Canada's spy agency was speaking out for Canada's national government when on CBC he fingered municipal politicians in B.C. being under the control of foreign governments.
Webserver hacked
Thursday
June 24, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Regina: In the middle of the night early Friday morning the server that brings you this web site was attacked by hackers attempting to gain control and access to the server. They did not achieve their goal but did enough damage to prevent updates to the site until it was over hauled on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Thursday
June 24, 2010
by: Brian Marlatt

White Rock, British Columbia: In the southern most part of mainland British Columbia is the airport known as Boundary Bay. This past Saturday they held their sixth annual air show. Brian Marlatt was on hand and caught more than a hundred pictures of the displays and the air show itself. Some very interesting aircraft and outstanding weather.
New treatment for 1100 block 95th St
Tuesday
June 15, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Tisdale streets are in pretty tough shape and it looks like the town is seeking some alternative to full fledged pavement with the need to resurface several streets. 95th Street is the first to try out something old and different.
Seeding is over
Monday
June 14, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: The countryside around Tisdale is positively lush from the almost steady rain over the past weeks. But the fields are laying in water to much water to dry up quickly but also enough to drown crops already sown. Few farmers expect to do any more planting, what is in the ground is the crop for this year and in some parts of Saskatchewan that means most of the land this year will lay fallow.
The Greenwater report
Monday
June 14, 2010
by: Gerald Crawford

Humboldt: This week's report gives us the low down on the Good Sam club that held their special outing this past weekend in Humboldt. Despite the rain it looks like things went off just great and the Crawfords are off this coming weekend for another RV tour of northwestern Saskatchewan.
