Downtown Tisdale upgrade preparations

by: Timothy W. Shire

Experimental Box
Thursday
May 6, 2004
by : John Smith
This is a hacker story as the author goes about creating a computer to try things out. With spam and worms ravaging computers today we need very badly to explore these weapons of mass computer destruction in an effort to protect our equipment. What will be done with this computer you wouldn't want to do with a machine you depend upon for everyday work.

Tim's Tip of the Day

Though many of us can't get the morning, or the day, for that matter, going without a cup of coffee, it seems that this little vice is one of the most insignificant problems around. Caffiene in coffee is addictive, but actually improves alertness and may have other beneficial affects. Only a few people such as those with heart problems need to watch out for the stuff, but like all things, everything is best in moderation.

Kevin's find of the day

Oregon prisoners get flat-screen TVs (pdf) This story that appeared on CNN reports on an innovative programme to reward prisoners for good behaviour with small 7in. TVs for use in their cells. Though it seems like a luxury it really turns out to be an outstanding idea at providing and means of rehabilitating offenders.

Ensign Notes

The illness I had on Tuesday night kept me down all of Wednesday so I was unable to post yesterday.

of Events

Tulips
Thursday
May 6, 2004
by : Albert Eckart
Swift Current : Spring is flourishing in the south western portion of Saskatchewan and has brought out some great looking flowers to begin the season.

Air Cadets cleanup
Thursday
May 6, 2004

Another look at the lake
Thursday
May 6, 2004
by : R. W. Shire
Regina : The lake is full now in Regina and the citizens of the city once again get to stroll by its shores and this year they expect not to be able to smell it rotting.

Purple Finch
Thursday
May 6, 2004
by : Helen Carson
Crooked River : These are really outstanding images of a neat little bird that lives in this part of Saskatchewan.

Breaking ground for new 18 unit Condo
Tuesday
May 4, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Today the surface was removed from the new condominium site beside the Gold Age Centre as surveyors stake the site and Chupa Excavation removes the topsoil.

Robin waits for May to show up in Tisdale
Monday
May 3, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Though Robins have been comfortably living in much of Saskatchewan for up to a month they have stayed away from Tisdale until Sunday morning when one dropped by our house and I was able to take his picture a few doors down. This story includes a QuickTime rendition of a song by the "world's greatest entertainer."

Al Jolson
Monday
May 3, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Michael Jackson, Elvis Prestley, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby all are just pale imitations of the very first superstar Al Jolson. When records, radio, movies and television were invented he was there front and centre and he was well aware of his position in history as he turned to the camera in the first motion picture with sound and ad-libed "You aint heard nothin' yet."

The Greenwater Report for May 3, 2004
Monday
May 3, 2004
by : Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Provincial Park : Trips to Prince Albert, Christopher Lake, Melfort and Greenwater Lake is starting to break up despite the rather unpleasant weather. Gerald gives us a look at some astonishing signs of the growing desert near Rosetown.

Friday
April 30, 2004
by : Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Provincial Park : This month's meeting dealt with various contests and projects the club involves themselves in and of course this month's competition to produce a "freak of nature."

Democracy is neither scientific polling nor privatisation, and we don’t need to compare apples with apples
Friday
April 30, 2004
by : Mario deSantis
Nipawin : The role of the citizen seems to be increasingly confusing as we get sucked into discussions that seem to rely upon pseudo-scientific polling while at the same time matters of serious and importance to us all are fluffed over as high salaried officials cut vital programmes or the fundamental right to medical care is undermined by political and power struggle conditions in the country.

Its Sale Time
Thursday
April 29, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Today began the spring rummage sale at St. Matthew's Anglican Church as it begins the weekend of garage and rummage sales. There are several sales planned for this weekend so make sure you drop by the best one of the year at St. Matthew's that continues all of today, tomorrow and wraps up Saturday morning.

Count Me Out! Boycott the Canadian Census Test!
Thursday
April 29, 2004
by : Mel Hurtig
Edmonton : As if having Disney own the rights to the RCMP wasn't enough Ottawa has farmed out the 2006 Census to Lockheed Martin. don't you think you should be concerned about this? Lockheed Martin's motto is "We never forget who we're working for"

Cold and sunny afternoon
Thursday
April 29, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Capturing the sky this afternoon with tower cumulus in the area and an ice cold wind with a QuickTime VR. This page includes a 2.6MB image that would take some time to download on a dial up connection.

April Shower, snow
Wednesday
April 28, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Thanks we needed that, last night we had a gentile shower (rain shower) that dribbled water on the town and fields around us but during the night it turned to snow so that this morning we all awoke to a white world once more.
