Ray Strachan's Crooked River
Monday
October 29, 2007
by: Ray Strachan
Grimshaw, Alberta: The October 4 picture essay of Crooked River triggered memories and nostalga for the once booming community and we received e-mails from Mary Weston in B.C. and Ray Strachan in Grimshaw. Ray followed up with stories about the community and his life there and then sent some remarkable images of the time. Some of them, negatives which he had never seen.

The Greenwater report
Monday
October 29, 2007
by: Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Lake Provincial Park: Its a done deal the Crawfords are city folks now as this past weekend it was moving day but we still have some weather, lawn mowing, mosse hunting, cabin construction and park undertakings to keep us up to date on things. The community supper to recognise the Crawfords is set for November 17 in Greenwater Hall, its a pot luck.
There's an edge on that wind today
Friday
October 26, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Doug Weiser tapped me on the shoulder this afternoon and said quietly, "its going to snow tonight." Most years we would have had some white stuff by now but this year it has not happened yet but we all know about inevitability.
House eighteen
Thursday
October 25, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: This one is almost ready to receive an RTM. But the building boom just keeps on as Tisdale contractors try to keep the complex process moving despite the volume of new houses currently underway in various stages of completion.
Fred Bradshaw - Saskatchewan Party candidate for Carrot River Valley
Wednesday
October 24, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: This is a short video clip of Mr. Bradshaw shown on this site in QuickTime. ( a recent version of QuickTime is necessary to play is short video) (there was a problem with a microphone switch which prevented the use of a second fuller take)
Only four so far this year
Wednesday
October 24, 2007
by: Merv Vey
Tisdale: In a story last week it was stated that there are a lot of water breaks each year. The Town Administrator, Merv Vey, points out that of those many holes in our streets and boulivards, only four were actual water breaks and, he goes on to explain that paving is not something done each year.
Common Grackle
Wednesday
October 24, 2007
by: Helen Carson
Crooked River: The big black bird called the grackle is often a regular feature of the landscape in many parts of Canada but very rare on the edge of the boreal forest.
Finishing up
Wednesday
October 24, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Those last few fields were being cleaned up this afternoon with combines while other fall work is in full swing. Banding and field draining.
Leigh Spencer - NDP candidate for Carrot River Valley
Tuesday
October 23, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: This is a three minute streaming video clip of NDP candidate Leigh Spencer giving us his explanation of what he stands for in this election. (The video is flash media and requires no media player to be viewed.)
More than a week into the campaign and nothing about farming!
Monday
October 22, 2007
by: Henry Neufeld
Waldeck: Though agriculture is the primary things about Saskatchewan you sure wouldn't know that by checking in on the campaigns of all three political parties.
The Greenwater report
Monday
October 22, 2007
by: Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Lake Provincial Park: Street paving, good fishing and the Cove is open for coffee. Gerald is in heaven and he knows it.
Creative copying in a technological world
Friday
October 19, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: It is how nature makes things and without templates mass production would be impossible. Starting from scratch is not the way to go.
Investors Group
Thursday
October 18, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: This office opened in early September in the Tisdale Mall providing investment and financial services.
Welcome to Tisdale
Thursday
October 18, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: In many ways I have been told Tisdale's leaking and frequently dug up water mains are better than many other communities but it seems to be a never ending strugggle to keep water inside the pipes. This hole is not under a road so we can be thankful for that.
Producer car shipping
Tuesday
October 16, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Do-it-yourself elevator business is far less popular than one would expect with the savings that available from this method of selling grain.
The Greenwater report
Monday
October 15, 2007
by: Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Lake Provincial Park: He is already complaining about light polution in the city so it looks to me like it is going to be difficult to make a city slicker out of Gerald Crawford
Cleanup week in Tisdale
Monday
October 15, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: The town will be picking those bagged leaves this week as its time to put the leaves and twigs away for another season.

Friday
October 12, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: The flag that flies over Tisdale's RCMP detachment is at half mast as a sign of respect for the tragic death of Constable Christopher Worden of Hay River, the community at the end of the highway north of High Level Alberta and on the south shore of Great Slave Lake.
Provincial election 2007
Thursday
October 11, 2007
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Time to set out some of the basic issues facing Saskatchewan voters and in particular Tisdale voters. This story comes with the warned not to screw up an important event by not getting involved.

Wednesday
October 10, 2007
by: Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Lake Provincial Park: We get a quick run down of the contests the club is involved in and get to see their pictures for this past month of "wildflowers."
Who will speak for electoral reform?
Wednesday
October 10, 2007
by: Alan Heisey
Toronto, Ontario: This story comes to us from prominent Toronto lawyer and political activist Alan Heisey on the day of the Ontario provincial election, the day the Saskatchewan election is expected to be called and the possiblity of a federal election shortly. Fairness in the size of electoral ridings is so important to our electoral process yet often completely ignored by the politicians, the press and the public.
